Bulldozer Fell Off Trailer and Smashed Car
Two St. Charles women were injured on July 8 when a bulldozer being towed by a tractor-trailer fell off its trailer and crushed their car. The accident occurred in New Melle, Missouri. Elsie Sherman and her daughter Judith Uler were seriously injured when the bulldozer smashed their car. Initial reports are that the semi-truck was rounding a corner when the bulldozer fell off and landed on the ladies’ Mercury Marquis. Elsie Sherman was reported to have suffered a serious head injury and is currently recovering. After being discharged from the hospital, she was released to hospice care. Her daughter Judith, was in a coma for several weeks. At this point, there are no reports as to how she has recovered.
Certainly our prayers go out to the family and wish them all the best recovery from this tragic and strange accident.
The driver of the semi is reported to be 24-year-old Adam Steinmann. Authorities also investigated whether Steinmann properly secured the bulldozer. One thing is for sure – Bulldozers don’t tip over unless they were not properly secured. However, there is another issue that a Missouri Personal Injury Lawyer should investigate. Because Steinmann was operating a tractor-trailer, he and his employer is governed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. These regulations govern many aspects of driving a commercial vehicle such as training. The family’s St. Louis car accident lawyer should investigate whether Steinmann was properly trained, not only in operating the vehicle, but also in securing the bulldozer. Additionally, may still be possible to download the tractor-trailer’s black box data which would show how fast Steinmann was traveling at the time the Bulldozer fell off.
